Anurans (Anura, gr. a (n), "no" and Oura, "tail") are a clade of amphibians, with taxonomic rank of order, commonly known as frogs and toads. They are characterized for lack of tail, to present a short body and very enlarged, and more developed hind legs adapted for jumping. The frogs are the largest group of amphibians, it is estimated that over 5,000 species in 48 families. Most spend their lives in or near water. Its size can vary from a few millimeters, as is the case of the genus Eleutherodactylus, to sizes that exceed 30 inches, highlighting the goliath frog, the world's largest anuran. Morphology
Anurans have a very wide mouth with tiny teeth or not, depending on the species, and with a tongue-thrusting. The eyes are fitted with lids and ears are no external flags, differing only tympanic membrane surface. The two pairs of legs are very different from each other, gaining more strength development and the posterior pair, which also is adapted to jumping. The front legs end in four fingers, while the later do in five. Another feature that favors the jump is the presence of a small and rigid spine called rump. Tadpoles (larval stage) have an aquatic life, while adults are terrestrial and only return to water at the time of reproduction.
